The senate has approved legislation to exempt certain businesses from the Identity Theft Red Flags Rule, BankInfoSecurity reports. The bill--S3987--is expected to be brought up on the house floor next week, according to Morrison Foerster partner Andrew Smith, who detailed the measure on yesterday's Privacy Tracker call. The amendment would exempt professional service providers such as doctors, lawyers and retailers from the rule; only actual creditors would be subject to it.
