Government employee organizations are asking the Navy for identity-theft insurance following the notification that the personal data of 244 employees was inadvertently released to a "non-government entity," the Washington Post reports. The breach occurred in June of 2008, but employees were not notified until October of 2009, the report states. According to the notification letter sent to the employees, Navy officials are "not aware of any evidence to suggest that your PII (personally identifiable information) has been misused or further distributed..." However, the National Association of Government Employees is concerned about the risk of "loss of reputation" and, potentially, "loss of their security clearance" due to the breach, the report states.
