The Audiovisual Antipiracy Federation claims that hundreds of thousands of Telecom Italia customers have illegally downloaded content. It wants Telecom Italia to identify those customers and report them to authorities. It is a deadlock with echoes around the world, where anti-piracy interests are demanding user data and ISPs are refusing to divulge it, citing customers' privacy. Italy's national privacy authority is backing Telecom Italia in the case.
