Victoria's privacy and health services commissioners used Midsumma Festival to advise the gay and lesbian community about their privacy rights, the Star Observer reports. The commissioners released a case study describing how the privacy rights of a Victorian man were violated when a government contractor recorded his movements. State laws dictate that both private and public-sector organisations may only collect certain information with consent. Privacy Commissioner Helen Versey said privacy is crucial to GLBTI people because of potential discrimination, and that information collected must be "accurate, kept secure and managed properly."
