The Federal Information Commissioner post has lacked a permanent leader since last June, and critics are calling the delay an example of the government's practice of limiting public access to information, the Toronto Sun reports. One expert in the field is quoted as calling the government's delay in naming a permanent commissioner "disturbing." The information commissioner, who is appointed for a term of seven years and can only be removed by an order of Parliament, is responsible for reviewing complaints under the Access to Information Act. Suzanne Legault has been serving as interim commissioner since the end of June, and was recently appointed to serve until a permanent appointment is made.
