Registry limits minors’ online activities

Two companies have created a registry that parents can use to shield their underage child’s personally identifiable information online. Acxiom Corporation and Privacy Vaults Online, Inc. (Privo) have created the Protect My Child Registry (PMCR), essentially a do-not-contact registry that parents can use to block or limit Web site access, mobile content, or Internet-based marketing.

PMCR is set to launch in the third quarter of 2009. Initially, it will be available in the U.S. and Canada. The registry requires users’ opt-in.
