Cooney named CPO
Maureen Cooney, CIPP/G, has been named chief privacy officer and vice president for public policy at TRUSTe. Cooney brings decades of experience in the privacy field, previously serving as acting chief privacy officer at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and as an information privacy and security legal advisor for international consumer protection at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.

"Maureen's unmatched record in global privacy laws, ecommerce and consumer protection will be extremely valuable to TRUSTe as our company enters a new era of growth," said TRUSTe CEO Fran Maier.

In addition to her public service, as an attorney Cooney has counseled clients in the private sector as a senior advisor at the Center for Information Policy Leadership and as a principal of The Federal Group. She was recognized as one of the "top 25 privacy experts" in her field by Computerworld magazine.

At TRUSTe, Cooney will provide public policy representation and privacy and information management leadership.
