Lucy Thomson, CIPP/G, Appointed Consumer Privacy Ombudsman
Lucy Thomson, CIPP/G, was appointed Consumer Privacy Ombudsman by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Eastern District of Virginia (Alexandria) to oversee the sale of more than 500,000 consumer records in the Storehouse, Inc. bankruptcy case. This is only the fourth such appointment nationwide since the 2005 amendments to the Bankruptcy Code mandated that a Consumer Privacy Ombudsman be appointed in bankruptcy cases involving the sale of consumer records.

Thomson is a senior principal engineer, information security, and privacy advocate at Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), a global IT company, where she works on teams developing information systems for large government and commercial organizations.

A career U.S. Department of Justice attorney, Thomson served in senior litigation positions in the Criminal and Civil Rights Divisions. She is currently an elected member of the American Bar Association (ABA) House of Delegates, the Council of the ABA Section of Science & Technology Law, and chair of its Homeland Security Committee.

Correction: In the June issue, Lucy Thomson's name was misspelled and her company was misidentified. The Privacy Advisor regrets these errors.
