As the ranks of privacy pros continue to swell, the IAPP is constantly tested to continually serve our members by not only meeting, but exceeding, the profession's expectations. The IAPP takes on this challenge with zeal in our efforts to consistently offer you the best in education, certification and networking.

It is in this vein that we are proud to unveil to you in this Summit edition of the Advisor some highlights you can take advantage of next month at the IAPP Privacy Summit 07, March 7-9, in Washington, D.C. We fully expect the Summit to draw the largest annual gathering of privacy professionals in the world. And here's why:

o Provocative keynotes. The IAPP recently announced that U.S. Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales has accepted our keynote invitation. Privacy pros - most of whom typically rely on the media for insights into the privacy positions taken by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) - will hear directly from the Attorney General about the DOJ's views on global and domestic privacy issues. And that's not all. There are more D.C. heavyweights at the Summit - namely Federal Trade Commission Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras and Sidley Austin LLP Partner Alan Charles Raul, who President Bush appointed to serve as Vice Chairman of the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board. Other Summit speakers include Scott McNealy, chairman of Sun Microsystems, who can be relied on for memorable messages about privacy. Holding true to the IAPP's commitment to offer global perspectives on privacy, we are proud to offer attendees the opportunity to hear a keynote from the UK's privacy czar, Richard Thomas.

o Build your own conference.
From privacy rookies to the seasoned privacy pro, the Summit agenda is designed to allow attendees to fashion their own programming on an advanced or general level with sessions across several industry sectors. Some key topics include a focus on regulators, enforcement, vendor relationships and information-sharing.

o Prep and test to become privacy-certified. Join the ranks of more than 1,000 privacy professionals who have earned their privacy certification for the Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), Certified Information Privacy Professional/Government (CIPP/G) and Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C), the IAPP's first international credential.

o Networking galore.
From the informal Networking Dinners to the IAPP Summit Gala Reception, the Summit offers a menu of venues for privacy pros looking for their next big privacy gig or just the opportunity to share perspectives from the trenches.

So don't delay! I urge you to register NOW for the Summit, because with all that we have to offer, space will be limited and likely will be sold out for the first time ever in our history. Come grow with us! We need each other to continue this trajectory of success.

J. Trevor Hughes, CIPP
Executive Director, IAPP
