The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2®, the non-profit global leader in educating and certifying information security professionals throughout their careers, has named Kristin Parker, CISSP, of Booz Allen Hamilton its Rising Star Award winner at the Information Security Executive (ISE) National Awards at the CSI Executive Retreat in Orlando, Florida.

Sponsored by (ISC)2 for the first time, the ISE Rising Star Award honors a U.S.-based information security professional who demonstrates innovation and leadership in ensuring effective security for an organization and who is expected to have a lasting impact on the field of information security.

Parker is widely known as a thought leader among federal agencies, international banks and the government consulting community in the areas of security convergence and integrated security, which brings together all the disciplines of security to realize efficiencies or profits.

Parker leads Booz Allen's efforts to support federal agency compliance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12). She has made a significant impact across the federal government and the vendor community in leading the effort of federal agencies to meet the challenging goal of providing a common identification standard for managing access to information and services across federal departments and agencies.

Parker has been instrumental in marshalling the energies of industry regulators and leveraging standards set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to drive and shape the convergence of physical and logical security onto a single smart card, which has the long-term potential of improving the overall security posture of the federal government and its contractors.

Parker, a Senior Associate at Booz Allen, is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), administered by (ISC)2.

"In an information security environment that requires both the convergence of physical and virtual security as well as the ability to communicate risk management and its dividends to a variety of stakeholders, Ms. Parker is a leader," said Ed Zeitler, CISSP, executive director of (ISC)2. "Her work encapsulates much of what our latest annual global study of the profession found - that effective information security is more about people working together organization-wide to create effective policies and processes than simply implementing technology solutions."

"I wish to thank (ISC)2 for this honor and believe that part of my success is due to its rigorous professional education and certification process," Parker said. "The CISSP has given me both significant standing in my professional community and a common language with which to discuss a broad range of security topics with my peers, as well as garner the respect of those in the industry."
