Somini Sengupta writes about technology, law and society. Previously, she was a foreign correspondent, most recently as bureau chief for India and before that bureau chief for West and Central Africa. Sengupta’s work in West Africa won the George Polk Award for Foreign Reporting in 2004. She was born in Calcutta and raised in Midwestern Canada and Southern California.
