Peter Lefkowitz joined General Electric as Chief Privacy Counsel in September 2013. In this role, he oversees the development and implementation of GE’s data protection policies, standards and practices globally.
Prior to joining GE, Peter served as Vice President of Privacy & Security Legal and Chief Privacy Officer at Oracle Corporation. He worked closely with Oracle’s corporate security team and business lines on privacy and security oversight and compliance, and advised executive management on, among other things, structuring and managing cloud services, responding to security issues and incidents, and maintaining required information protection systems, policies, standards, registrations and certifications.
Prior to assuming positions in data protection, Peter was a commercial attorney and team lead at Oracle and was a litigation attorney with Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, California and with Heidlage & Reece, P.C. in Boston. He clerked for the Honorable Robert E. Coyle, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California.
Peter has spoken widely on privacy and information security, including presentations for IAPP, the Boston Bar Association, the American Bar Association and TRUSTe, and is a member of the Board of Editors at the Boston Bar Journal. He is a member of the Board of Directors at Jewish Family & Children’s Services of Greater Boston, and is chair of JF&CS Bet Tzedek Pro Bono Legal Services.
Peter holds a Bachelor of Arts in History, magna cum laude, from Yale College and a law degree from Harvard Law School. He is married to Lori Silver and has two children.
