Hilary Wandall is AVP, Compliance and Chief Privacy Officer of Merck & Co., Inc., a global health care company that operates in more than 140 countries, provides prescription medicines, vaccines, biologic therapies, and consumer care and animal health products, and is committed to increasing access to healthcare through far-reaching policies, programs and partnerships.  Hilary had led the Merck Privacy Office and the company’s global privacy program since 2004.  In this capacity, she has driven the development and internal adoption globally of a values-based privacy program supported by management accountability and quantitative measurement of effectiveness and continuous improvement.

Hilary is actively engaged in a broad range of industry and pan-industry outreach and advocacy efforts to address evolving health information and privacy and data protection policy issues.  She is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Pharmaceutical Privacy Consortium and recently served as Chair.  Hilary’s career in healthcare spans 20 years, including 19 years at Merck.  She has broad multi-disciplinary experience in HIV research, genetic and cellular toxicology, internet marketing, corporate law, ethics and compliance, and privacy and data protection.  She holds a B.S. in Biology from Moravian College, a J.D. and an M.B.A. from Temple University, and a Master of Bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania.  She is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  She is a member of the 2005 inaugural class of CIPPs.
