European Data Protection Supervisor
Peter Hustinx has been European data protection supervisor since January 2004. He was reappointed by the European Parliament and the council in January 2009 for a second term of five years.
He has been closely involved in the development of data protection legislation from the start, both at a national and international level.
Before entering his office, Hustinx served as president of the Dutch Data Protection Authority beginning in 1991. From 1996 until 2000, he was chairman of the Article 29 Working Party.
Hustinx received law degrees in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and in Ann Arbor, MI, U.S. Since 1986 he has been deputy judge in the court of appeal in Amsterdam.
