Publications Advisory Board Roles and Expectations


The IAPP Publications Advisory Board helps guide our coverage of privacy and security issues by ensuring our content is useful and timely.

The board is led by IAPP Publications Director Sam Pfeifle and Managing Editor Jennifer Saunders, CIPP/US, and meets once every two months via teleconference with in-person meetings whenever practical at IAPP events.

Publications Advisory Board Expectations

All Publications Advisory Board members are expected to:

  • Play a role in planning and/or contributing content for IAPP publications and resources, which include IAPP Web Conferences; our member newsletter, The Privacy Advisor; the IAPP blog, Privacy Perspectives; our legislative blog, Privacy Tracker, our books and our Resource Center.
  • Support the work of our Publications Team by providing regular guidance, insight and feedback


All Publications Advisory Board members are required to:

  • Serve a two-year term (renewable)
  • Attend and actively contribute to meetings
  • Be advocates for the IAPP and promote its content resources through professional networks and social media accounts

Selection Criteria

The board comprises at least 15 IAPP members and is balanced, as much as possible, by experience, industry sector, geographical location and gender. Considerations for selection include:

  • Current IAPP membership in good standing, maintained throughout term
  • Professional experience with and knowledge of data protection and privacy issues
  • CIPP credential/CIPM designation


  • Potential for professional publication and/or web conference exposure
  • Promotion of the privacy profession by ensuring we are delivering highest quality content items to meet member and industry needs
  • Receive two continuing privacy education (CPE) credits per year of service
