John O'Dwyer was appointed deputy commissioner at the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (Ireland) in August 2013. The Office oversees the implementation of Irish and European Union data protection legislation. As deputy commissioner, he has responsibilities across all functions of the office including; compliance, audits, enforcement, investigations, breaches, registration and general administration.

Prior to joining the ODPC, O'Dwyer worked as a civil servant across a number of policy, operational and European areas of responsibility.
