Chief Privacy Officer

Kathleen Styles is the U.S. Department of Education’s first chief privacy officer. Styles coordinates and oversees federal technical assistance on privacy and confidentiality to the education community. She leads a new division dedicated to advancing the responsible collection, use and stewardship of information, including the administration of statutes such as FERPA, FOIA, the PRA and the Privacy Act.
Previously, Styles served as chief of the Office of Analysis and Executive Support at the U.S. Census Bureau. She is a frequent speaker on privacy issues and was featured in the October 2011 issue of SC Magazine in the article “Making the Grade.”
