Jeroen Terstegge, CIPP/US
Executive Director and Owner
Jeroen H.J. Terstegge, CIPP, is executive director and owner of PrivaSense, a consultancy firm on strategy and policy development, compliance, risk management, communication and training with respect to privacy and protection of personal data.
Terstegge is the chairman of the Privacy Committee of the Dutch Council of Central Business Associations (VNO-NCW and MKB Nederland), which represents Dutch business on privacy issues vis-á-vis the Dutch government and the institutions of the European Union. Furthermore, he is editor-in-chief of Privacy & Compliance and a member of the board of the Dutch Privacy Law Association (VPR). Over the years, he has been a speaker at numerous conferences, seminars and universities. He is also the author of several books and articles on privacy and data protection in Dutch and English.
Until 2009, Terstegge was corporate privacy officer/senior legal counsel with Royal Philips Electronics. He is one of the founding fathers and pioneers of the binding corporate rules (BCRs) idea, for which his organization received an HP-IAPP Privacy Innovation Award in 2006.
Earlier in his career, Terstegge was a policy analyst with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (CBP), specializing in employee privacy, was part of the team that drafted the Dutch Data Protection Act at the Dutch Ministry of Justice and was a researcher in employee privacy law at the Universities of Amsterdam and Maastricht.
Terstegge holds master’s degrees in business law (mr.) and law and business administration (drs.) from Groningen University. He is also an alumnus of the Leyden/Columbia summer program in American law.
