International Association of Privacy Professionals Names Rita Di Antonio
as Managing Director of IAPP Europe
LONDON – 23 May 2011 — The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the world's largest association of privacy professionals, today announced the appointment of Rita Di Antonio as managing director of IAPP Europe at a special reception hosted by Hunton & Williams.
Di Antonio, formerly editor of data protection and privacy global online resource DataGuidance, will lead the IAPP’s efforts in Europe with assistance from an advisory board of European data protection leaders. She will represent the IAPP in the major data protection conversations in the region, develop relationships with existing national data privacy professional associations and have direct responsibility for managing the annual IAPP Europe Data Protection Congress, an annual conference focused on education and discussion of the top issues impacting European privacy professionals. She will also spearhead efforts to launch the Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E), the first professional credential that demonstrates comprehensive understanding of the privacy and data protection laws and issues unique to Europe.
“The continued growth of the IAPP in Europe is an important and exciting development for the privacy profession as organizations and companies look to make sense of the changing landscape,” said IAPP Chairman Bojana Bellamy, director of data privacy, Accenture. “Under Rita’s leadership, the expansion of IAPP Europe, development of the CIPP/E certification and growth of the Data Protection Congress will be essential for the organization’s growth going forward.”
“Addressing privacy and data protection issues is one of the most important priorities for the growth of the information economy in Europe and around the world,” said former UK information commissioner (2002-9) and IAPP Board member Richard Thomas. “Having Rita as a catalyst for growth for the organization will be a tremendous asset to IAPP Europe and privacy professionals in the region.”
“The IAPP is building a tremendously strong team through our European Advisory Board of industry leaders and the appointment of Rita to expand IAPP Europe and better serve the needs of our membership,” said IAPP President and CEO Trevor Hughes. “Rita brings a wealth of knowledge about the European privacy and policy landscape and we are delighted to welcome a dynamic new member to our growing staff.”
