IAPP Europe Forms Strategic Alliances with Key European Data Protection Associations

Giulianova, Italy – November 16, 2011 – IAPP Europe today announced that it has entered into strategic alliances with three key data protection associations in Spain, the UK and the Netherlands: Associación Profesional Española de Privacidad (APEP), the Data Protection Forum, and Nederlands Genootschap van Functionarissen voor de Gegevensbescherming (NGFG).

These partnerships come at a time of increased international emphasis on privacy and data protection and heightened recognition of the critical role of data protection officers, especially in Europe, where IAPP Europe is already working closely with the German Association for Data Protection and Data Security and the French Association of Data Protection Correspondents.

With nearly 10,000 members, the IAPP is the world’s largest association of privacy professionals. IAPP Europe is a community within the IAPP that provides education, networking and certification specifically for European data protection professionals.

Greater collaboration between members of IAPP Europe and other European data protection associations will help address cross-border privacy challenges and shape new approaches to the discipline. The IAPP Europe partnerships include co-promoted events, educational resources and knowledge sharing opportunities. Members of the groups will also benefit from reciprocal member discounts and exchange of speakers between the two organizations’ events.

“IAPP Europe and our sister organizations in Spain, the UK and the Netherlands share a commitment to helping data protection practitioners develop and embrace global data protection practices,” said IAPP President & CEO J. Trevor Hughes. “With these partnerships, IAPP Europe members will have enhanced opportunities to work together with their colleagues in APEP, the Data Protection Forum and NGFG, and share insights in the constantly changing data protection landscape,” added Rita Di Antonio, managing director, IAPP Europe.
