IAPP Europe Forms Strategic Alliance with the Irish Association of Data Protection Officers

Giulianova, Italy – 19 March 2013 – IAPP Europe announced today that it has entered into a strategic alliance with the Irish Association of Data Protection Officers. The partnership comes at a time of increased international emphasis on privacy and data protection, and heightened recognition of the critical role of data protection officers, especially in Europe, where IAPP Europe is already working closely with other key European data protection associations.

With over 12,000 members, the IAPP is the world’s largest association of privacy professionals. IAPP Europe is a community within the IAPP that provides education, networking and certification specifically for European data protection professionals.

Greater collaboration between IAPP Europe and members of the ADPO will help address cross-border privacy challenges and shape new approaches to the discipline. The IAPP Europe–ADPO partnership includes co-promoted events, educational resources and knowledge sharing opportunities. Members of both groups will also benefit from reciprocal member discounts and exchange of speakers between the two organisations’ events.

“IAPP Europe and ADPO share a commitment to helping data protection practitioners develop and embrace global data protection practices,” said IAPP President & CEO J. Trevor Hughes, CIPP. “With this partnership, IAPP Europe members will have enhanced opportunities to work together with their colleagues in Ireland, and share insights in the constantly changing data protection landscape,” added Rita Di Antonio, CIPP/E, managing director, IAPP Europe.

ADPO Chairman Fintan Swanton also welcomed the new relationship, saying “The facilitation of global commerce, whilst fully respecting individual privacy rights, has always been a cornerstone of data protection regulation and law. We in ADPO see this new connection with IAPP Europe as offering our members significant advantages in fulfilling the international dimension of their duties.”
