IAPP Celebrates First Regional Affiliate in Australia and New Zealand

IAPP ANZ will serve local needs and better connect privacy professionals to global issues

SYDNEY—August 26, 2008—The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) announced today its first regional affiliate: IAPP ANZ.  This new Australia and New Zealand organization has been established to support and define the privacy profession in a region where many public and private sector privacy innovations are taking shape.

Speaking alongside regional and international privacy leaders at the IAPP ANZ's inaugural conference in Sydney on August 27, IAPP Executive Director Trevor Hughes will formally welcome the new organization: "Privacy professionals are the arbiters of trust in today's global information economy.  We're delighted to join in the launch of IAPP ANZ and look forward to the organization promoting the role of privacy professionals in this area."

Malcolm Crompton, managing director, Information Integrity Solutions P/L and convener of the IAPP ANZ interim board of directors, adds, "Australia, New Zealand and the larger Asia-Pacific region are often on the leading edge of privacy technology and policy—now, through IAPP ANZ, privacy professionals locally and globally can better share knowledge and hone their own approaches to privacy challenges."

Crompton is joined by six other interim board members:

  • Bethwyn Berry, head of compliance IT, Cadbury Schweppes
  • Brent Carey, Department of Justice manager, privacy, feedback & projects
  • Chris Jefferis, research consultant, Information Integrity Solutions P/L
  • Helen Lewin, chief privacy officer, Telstra
  • Annelies Moens, external relations manager, Australasian Legal Information Institute
  • Kevin Shaw, information security manager, WorleyParsons
