IAPP to Honor First Graduates of Landmark Privacy Certification

More than 150 privacy professionals to gather next week in Las Vegas for privacy certification training and testing

YORK, Maine - October 20, 2005 - The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the world's largest association of professionals in the privacy industry, will present a full complement of activities in support of its Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) and Certified Information Privacy Professional/Government (CIPP/G) credentialing programs next week at the IAPP Privacy Academy in Las Vegas.

October marks the first-year anniversary of the CIPP program, the first broad-based privacy certification available in the United States. More than 350 professionals have been certified by the IAPP. These milestones will be celebrated with a special, invitation-only reception honoring the inaugural class of IAPP certified professionals on October 26 at the Green Valley Ranch Resort and Spa in Las Vegas.

"The IAPP considers privacy certification central to its mission of supporting and advancing the privacy profession," said Peter Kosmala, IAPP assistant director. "We are pleased to celebrate our first year with the sponsors, developers, faculty and graduates who have made this program such a success."

The CIPP is a foundation course in information privacy that assesses understanding of privacy laws, operations, technologies and best practices. It is supported by founding grants from Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft. The CIPP/G is designed primarily for employees of U. S. federal and state governments as well as vendors and consultants who serve government clients. The government credential covers public-sector privacy laws, policies and practices and is underwritten by IBM

The IAPP will also offer programs for new students. All-day certification training will be held October 26 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The IAPP training faculty - all of whom are CIPP graduates - includes privacy leaders from Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, General Electric, Ernst & Young, Privacy Studio, LLC and MITRE Corporation.

On October 28, the IAPP will administer the CIPP and the CIPP/G examinations from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Registration for the tests is open until Friday, October, 21. Registration information is available at
