IAPP Privacy Certification Dates and Deadlines Announced

CIPP Live and Remote Training Offers Flexibility and Advantages for Individuals and Groups

York, Maine, September 16, 2004 — The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the industry's largest and most successful professional association, has scheduled in-person and Web/audio simulcast training to help the privacy community prepare for the industry's landmark certification process this October. The CIPP (Certified Information Privacy Professional) is the first, broad-based privacy certification program available in the United States. The IAPP is overseeing the program and is administering the first CIPP exam which it developed in coordination with Carnegie Mellon University and the Ponemon Institute, a leading privacy research group.

CIPP training and testing gives individual privacy professionals a means of assessing their privacy knowledge base, brushing up on skills they may not be currently using, while learning new developments that are essential to success in the profession.  For corporate privacy managers, it's an opportunity to establish a baseline knowledge standard for all of their staff.

The IAPP is offering remote training through "The IAPP Certification Training Series" of five, consecutive Web/audio simulcasts beginning Tuesday, September 21 and concluding Tuesday, October 19. Each session will address one of the five core subject matter areas tested in the CIPP exam and will be taught by a member of the IAPP's Certification Advisory Board, each a leading privacy executive. Remote training sessions are 90 minutes in length, commence at 1:00pm ET, and cost $159 per session, or $495 as a package for all five.  The single package price for CIPP training offers corporations significant price savings over paying for individual courses.

On-site pre-test training will take place on Wednesday, October 27 at the New Orleans Marriott, from 8am — 2pm prior to commencement of the IAPP's "Privacy and Data Security Academy and Expo."  This single training session is available for $495 per person.

Training for the IAPP's certification exam is recommended — but not required.

The first-ever CIPP exam will be administered by the IAPP on Wednesday, October 27 at the New Orleans Marriott from 3pm — 5pm.  The cost for CIPP testing is $245. The only requirement for exam eligibility is membership in the IAPP.  Candidates who are not IAPP members may become one on the day of the exam for a discounted rate of $150 (in addition to the exam fee).

"The IAPP's certification program is a huge step forward in creating greater visibility for the privacy profession and we invite the privacy community to take that step with us," said Peter Kosmala, Director of Certification, IAPP."Earning a CIPP designation is not just professional validation, but a statement to industry and employer  alike that an individual has mastered a body of privacy knowledge that commands respect."
